Enterprise Uganda, Hamilton Telecom Partner to Launch AgroNet Digital Platform for Farmers

Farmers across the country are set to benefit from a new wave of digital agricultural services following the signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Enterprise Uganda and Hamilton Telecom.

The agreement paves the way for the rollout of AgroNet, a digital platform designed to boost farm productivity, expand market access, and strengthen resilience across the agricultural value chain.

The partnership brings together the expertise of Enterprise Uganda— a UNDP-backed Centre of Excellence for Business Development Services— and the technological capacity of Hamilton Telecom, operator of the Paxtel Mobile and PaxSente mobile money brands. Together, the two institutions aim to streamline the delivery of business services and unlock agro-tech solutions for farmers and rural entrepreneurs.

Under the MOU, Enterprise Uganda will integrate Hamilton’s digital tools into its nationwide entrepreneurship programs. Their first joint activity will take place during Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) Uganda 2025, where Enterprise Uganda will host physical sessions as Hamilton Telecom provides the digital backbone for communication and engagement.

A key highlight of the collaboration is the introduction of Hamilton’s Agro-Tel platform, which will offer farmers access to weather forecasts, extension services, agro-input suppliers, and financing options. The system is expected to address persistent challenges such as unreliable advisory services, limited input access, and weather-related losses.

David Baziwane, Partnership and Ecosystems Development Manager at Enterprise Uganda, said the partnership marks a turning point for rural farmers:

“Our farmers have always lacked timely information and affordable services. Through AgroNet and this partnership, we are ensuring that even smallholder farmers can access modern tools that improve productivity and competitiveness,” he said.

Hamilton Telecom will further support the initiative with digital payment and mobile money solutions through PaxSente, strengthening financial inclusion for rural businesses. The overall goal is to revolutionize how farmers and small businesses access digital tools, providing real-time information, payment systems, and market linkages directly from a mobile phone.

The MOU also covers capacity-building programs, joint outreach activities, and subsidized access to Enterprise Uganda’s BDS Centre of Excellence in Butabika, with a strong focus on women, youth, startups, and the informal sector. A Joint Coordination Committee will oversee implementation and ensure steady progress.
